David Brough
Acting Coordinator, Wall to Wall Project
David first became professionally involved in Hadrian’s Wall during the establishment of HWHL, was briefly acting Co-ordinator for HW, and then joint editor of the 2008 MP, before completing an MLitt on the process of development of the FRE WHS. He acted as coordinator of the first two WtoW Management Seminars and joint editor of the publications of proceedings from each. His Great Uncle was one of the original Friends of the Vindolanda Trust and his Aunt was named after the Emperor Hadrian (‘Aelia’). He lives 7 fields south of Rudchester and has a dog with a Chinese name.
Mike Collins
Team Leader Development Advice & Senior World Heritage Advisor, Historic England
Mike started his career in commercial field archaeology, excavating in Essex and particularly in Yorkshire, before joining the Conservation Team at Northumberland County Council in 1999. This gave him a taste for Hadrian’s Wall and its management, leading him to join English Heritage’s Hadrian’s Wall Coordination Unit in 2003. From this date until 2019 he was the Inspector of Ancient Monuments for Hadrian’s Wall, providing advice about planning issues, scheduled monument consent and general management of the World Heritage Site. He now leads the Development Advice Team for Historic England in the North East, and works two days a week as part of Historic England’s International Team.
Dr Rob Collins
Project Manager, Hadrian’s Wall Community Archaeology Project (WallCAP)
Rob is a lecturer in Archaeology at Newcastle University, and the Project Manager for WallCAP. He has an enduring interest in Hadrian’s Wall and other Roman frontiers, probably beyond what is as ‘socially acceptable’, which may explain why he persistently publishes various books and papers on the subject.
Elaine Edgar
Trustee, Epiacum Heritage
Elaine Edgar, wife of the farmer at Castle Nook and Trustee of Epiacum Heritage. My interest in archaeology is largely influenced by my background in education and my continuing interest in creating possibilities for engagement. Since the organisation was set up in 2010, I have been fully occupied with Epiacum and the wider site. I enjoy rising to the challenges that the site presents in terms of bringing it to life and am particularly interested in the social history of the Epiacum landscape, exploring the people who lived here before and after the Romans.
Dr Christof Fluegel
Chief Consultant for Archaeological Museums in Bavaria, Bavarian Museum Service (Landesstelle fuer die nichtstaatlichen Museen in Bayern)
Christof Fluegel studied Archaeology of the Roman Provinces in Vienna and Munich and subsequently worked with the German Archaeological Institute Rome in Carthage (Tunisia). He currently is chief consultant for the archaeological museums in Bavaria, concentrating on bringing to life the Limes in Bavaria in various museums and multimedia projects.
Lady Jane Gibson
Chair, Hadrian’s Wall WHS Partnership Board
Jane is also chair of Spirit of 2012, the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic legacy charity and is a board member of the York and North Yorkshire LEP. She was founding chair of Make It York, the city’s destination management company.
Bill Griffiths
Head of Programmes & Collections, Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums
Bill is an archaeologist and Museum Manager with over 30 years association with Hadrian’s Wall, including excavations at Chesters, Wallsend and South Shields. He helped set up Segedunum Roman Fort Baths and Museum, becoming its first manager. Today he is part of the leadership team for Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums. He is a Trustee of both the Arbeia Society and the Senhouse Roman Musuem Trust in Maryport, and a Vice President of the Society of Antiquaries of Newcastle. He chaired the 2017 Hadrian’s Cavalry project, and chairs the Hadrian’s Wall 1900 steering group.
Dr Jane Harrison
Community Archaeologist, WallCAP
Jane is an experienced field archaeologist who has run many community-focused research excavations and projects from Orkney to Oxfordshire and is now back where she began digging – on Hadrian’s Wall.
Dr Anna Kaiser
Ass.Prof., Deputy Head – Centre for Cultural Property Protection, Danube University Krems
Anna Kaiser is an assistant professor and deputy head of the Centre for Cultural Property Protection at Danube University Krems, Austria. Her speciality is Roman military history and cultural property protection. She holds a PhD from Vienna University and is a fully trained liaison officer for military Cultural Property Protection in the Austrian Armed Forces Reserves. She is the course director of a post-graduate master’s programme in Cultural Property Protection and project coordinator of EU-funded projects dealing with cultural heritage protection. She has received numerous awards for her research and lectures on Cultural Property Protection and Roman military nationally and internationally.
Dr Ian Kille
Community Geologist, WallCAP
Geology, landscape and all it connects to has been a life-long fascination. My geological childhood was on the Wealden Chalk and the Jurassic rocks of North Somerset, then training as a research geologist at Oxford and Imperial College, investigating the volcanic complex on the Isle of Mull. In 2006, I set up Northumbrian Earth to share my enthusiasm for Northumberland and the Borders. This led to work including geo-walks on the Northumberland Coast and in the Cheviots and as the community geologist for the Lindisfarne Peregrini project. Additionally, I now work as the Community Geologist in the WallCAP team.

Emma McMullen
Antonine Wall Project Manager, West Dunbartonshire Council
Emma McMullen is an experienced project manager with a track record in funding capital and community development projects. After studying an MA geography degree and M.Phil in urban policy at the University of Glasgow, Emma worked in the north west of England and across Scotland with a focus on assembling and managing funding packages to support tourism, regeneration and rural community projects. Emma has managed the Rediscovering the Antonine Wall project for the past three years, with a focus on creating opportunities for partnership working, attracting additional funding and engaging harder to reach audiences in their Roman heritage.
Kathryn Murphy
Project Support Officer, WallCAP
Kathryn studied Anthropology & Classical Studies in Canada before moving to the UK to complete an MSc in GIS & Archaeology in Edinburgh. She then worked in commercial archaeology and the Historic Environment Record for local government before joining the WallCAP team. Her research focuses on understanding the network and connections between Roman military sites and how this allowed the Romans to control the landscape.

John Scott
Management Plan Coordinator, Frontiers of the Roman Empire World Heritage Site (Hadrian’s Wall)
John has over 20 years’ experience in the management of cultural sector projects and attractions, in the East Midlands and North of England. Working in the environmental, arts, economic development and heritage sectors, his passion and aim has been to bring these disciplines together and share cross sector best practice. His experience of interpretation, education, community engagement and visitor management is complemented by qualifications in Business and Performance management and Heritage Management. At Creswell Heritage Trust as Project Manager, and latterly Assistant Director, he played a pivotal role in the development and delivery of a £6.5m museum capital project and currently, as Hadrian’s Wall Management Plan Coordinator, he has to balance the many facets of one of the UK’s most complicated World Heritage Sites.
Kerry Shaw
Volunteer Coordinator & Community Liaison Officer, WallCAP
Passionate about enabling people to get involved in worthwhile projects for the benefit of the fabulous World Heritage Site on our doorstep, she simply loves working with people and enabling them to explore their spark for Hadrian’s Wall. With over 12 years of experience in volunteer management and community involvement along Hadrian’s Wall, she has been involved in many wall-wide projects including managing the National Trail Volunteer Ranger Team, setting up a Volunteer Tour Guiding programme, assisting with logistics for large scale event such as the Illuminating Hadrian’s Wall event, project managing the Hadrian’s Wall Community Champions programme and currently, overseeing all the volunteer and community involvement with WallCAP.

Hadrian’s Wall 1900 Delivery Team, Hadrian’s Wall Partnership
Ellie Turner and Maddie Maughan are Creative Producers with over 30 years of combined experience in delivering large-scale outdoor arts events. Ellie and Maddie have been brought on board to support Organisers to deliver events for Hadrian’s Wall 1900, to fundraise for activity to add profile to the Festival and to oversee the marketing and PR which will make the Festival a huge success. They have managed high-profile projects with community at their heart including Hull UK City of Culture 2017, Derry-Londonderry UK City of Culture 2013 and UK-wide London 2012 Olympic activity.
Lesley Turner & George Davies
Heritage Volunteers, Ouseburn Trust
Lesley and George are Ouseburn Valley enthusiasts. Lesley works for the Ouseburn Trust and George has recently completed an MA in Archaeology at the University of Durham and now works for the North East Chamber of Commerce. He is a member of the Ouseburn Trust’s Hadrian’s Wall Interest Group.
Duncan Wise
Visitor Development & Tourism Officer, Northumberland National Park
I have been the National Park Authority’s lead officer for visitor development and tourism since 2000. My responsibilities have included the management of its visitor centres, including the development of the Sill National Landscape Centre, the development and marketing of visitor experiences in and around the National Park, the promotion and support of the Hadrian’s Wall Bus service and integration with other sustainable transport services, and the lead officer for the Northumberland International Dark Sky Park.
